History of Bryan Assoc. Inc. Architects
Bryan Associates, Inc began as a father and son architecture firm specializing in custom home additions. After over 25 years of experience working on large commercial projects with A. Epstein and Sons in Chicago, Wayne Bryan set up shop in the attic space above the garage of the family home in Hinsdale. Wayne’s son Dan was returning from a semester studying architecture abroad and the new firm had a handful of residential remodeling projects contracted to draw. For several years, remodeling work was steady, but the early 90’s brought the teardown phenomena to Hinsdale. While the firm continued to take on renovation/addition work, demand surged for projects that replaced older homes in established neighborhoods with larger, more elaborate structures. The firm moved out of the attic, added several employees and with the help of computer aided design and drafting, this small design firm averaged 50 to 60 built projects per year over the next decade.

The firm gained a reputation for traditional detail and design. Years of experience blending new additions to historical homes gave Bryan Associates a unique ability to create new residences that authentically reflected the variety of styles from days gone by. While the traditional exteriors of these new homes seamlessly fit into old neighborhoods, their interiors open up to accommodate the way families live today. Kitchens, eating areas and gathering spaces come together to provide a cohesive place to share and entertain. Plush master bedroom suites, functional home offices and playful finished basements are a few of the highlights found in these designs.

Daniel Bryan assumed the role of owner and principle after his father Wayne retired in 2000 from full time employment. Dan became active in the American Institute of Architects and eventually was elected as President of the 450 member Northeast Illinois Chapter. Two of Bryan Associates projects appeared on the HGTV series Before and After, displaying how the firm had mastered the whole-house remodel. During this period, construction volume was at its height and it became difficult to find qualified general contractors to build all of the firm’s projects. To fill this gap, Dan began to offer construction management services to his remodeling clientele. This firsthand experience of building gave the firm more insight into everyday construction issues. By incorporating this knowledge into their designs and drawings, many construction glitches are avoided.

After designing over 100 new homes for private owners and speculating contractors, Dan formed Horizon Concepts, a home development company. The company has been successful in providing innovative homes that stand out from the pack. This business provides Bryan Associates the opportunity to design homes without compromise. This upward vertical integration has also helped the firm become more aware of lot purchase, real estate and other development issues. The architect led design/build service that Bryan Associates can provide has evolved slowly over 20 years of business. In August of ‘06 the firm relocated its operations to a larger space in Burr Ridge. They were able to custom design their new office space to accommodate all of the services that they provide. Dan prides himself on honesty and integrity which is reflected in the fact that 90% of new work comes from customer referrals. Bryan Associates, Inc hopes to continue its success for many years to come and is committed to providing the highest quality residential architectural services available.
